Periodic maintenance guidelines
Ensure machine is powered down and in a safe state before performing maintenance
Dispose of oily rags or towels properly to avoid risk of fire
Cleaning & lubricating the gantry
General info
The actuators need to be cleaned regularly to prevent dust or plastic debris accumulation, and should be lubricated with an oil or grease to protect and extend the life of the system.
Recommended lubricant types
Recommended Grease: Synthetic oil based lithium-soap grease with an ISO viscosity grade of 32-100.
Recommended Oil: Synthetic oil CLP or CGLP based on DIN 51517, or HLP based on DIN51524. Either should have an ISO viscosity grade of 32-100.
Process
Do not apply lubricant to the lead screws. The screws are coated and do not require external lubrication
- Using a brush, vacuum, or compressed air, clean out any dust or plastic debris from around the gantry.
- Using a clean lint-free towel or rag, wipe down every V-race to remove any dust or residue from the surface.
- Using a clean lint-free towel or rag, apply a thin coating of grease or oil to the V races.
- Run the actuators across the full length of travel four times to ensure lubrication applied evenly.
Lubricating motor couplings
General info
The motor couplings require a light coating of oil. If this coating is not present it may result in coupling noise and excessive wear.
Recommended lubricant types
Recommended oil: 3-in-1 type oil or light machine oil.
Do not use sliding grease, or oils or grease with molybdenum disulfide or other high pressure additives.
Process
- Remove the black plastic motor coupling covers.
- Using a clean lint-free towel or rag, wipe any excess oil from the outside of the coupling. Rotate the coupling to clean each side.
- Apply a couple drops of oil to each visible segment of the green coupling insert. Rotate the coupling to lubricate each side.
- Use a towel or rag to soak up any excess oil from the couplings to avoid over-lubrication.
- Replace black plastic motor coupling covers.
